We were all deeply saddened to hear that our friend Phyllis Preece has passed away. Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with her family and friends at this sad time.
Phyllis spent her life fighting injustice, and working hard to improve people’s lives, particularly the lives of older people.
As a tireless campaigner, and a significant figure in many older people’s organisations, Phyllis touched so many lives with her strength, dedication and passion.
Phyllis campaigned hard to create the role of Older People’s Commissioner, and worked closely with us from day one to drive change for older people.
I first met Phyllis when I was being interviewed for the role of Commissioner. She was warm yet direct and searching in her questions, with a spark of humour and strong and compassionate views. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with her over the last few years, and to count her as a friend.
Like everyone else who knew Phyllis, my team and I will miss her a great deal, and we’d like to thank her for everything she did on behalf of older people in Wales.
