Commissioner’s response to the UK Government’s decision that no compensation will be paid to older women affected by state pension changes

in News

Responding to the UK Government’s decision that no compensation will be paid to the older women affected by the changes to the state pension, Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Rhian Bowen-Davies, said:

“I understand the strong feelings of anger, frustration and despair felt by those older women affected by this decision.

“Nearly 4 million women across the UK have been affected, with many struggling to cope financially as they believe that they did not have appropriate time to make adjustments in response to the pension age changes.  Many of the older women will also now not receive the Winter Fuel Allowance, which adds further pressure to the financial hardship experienced.

“This decision has a disproportionate and discriminatory impact on these women, which is not acceptable.”
