In November 2022, the Commissioner published a briefing paper, which highlighted that up to 80,000 older people in Wales do not receive the Pension Credit they are entitled to. This means that over £200 million is left unclaimed in the UK Treasury, rather than reaching those who need it most.
The briefing called on the Welsh Government and local government to deliver urgent action to significantly increase the number of older people in Wales receiving Pension Credit, highlighting the crucial role that the third sector could play in taking this forward. The briefing also set out the actions the Commissioner would take to help ensure that older people can access the information and support they need to claim the Pension Credit they are entitled to.
One of these actions was to hold a Pension Credit Summit to bring together national and community-based organisations and inspire and support action throughout Wales. This online event took place on 8 December 2022 and was attended by a range of key individuals and organisations, all contributing ideas and pledging actions to help reach more people who are currently missing out.Read the Summit Report
