Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Heléna Herklots CBE, said:
“It’s important to remember that these figures represent the heartbreak and loss being felt by families and friends throughout Wales, and my heart goes out to those who have lost loved ones.
“That around 1 in 5 Covid-19 deaths have happened in care homes, places where some of our most vulnerable citizens should be kept safe and protected, is quite simply a tragedy.
“With the right action, there is still time to save lives in our care homes.
“It is crucial that the new measures recently announced by the Welsh Government are implemented immediately and effectively, and that testing is further extended so it is available to all care homes in Wales, to provide those living and working in care homes with the protection and support they need.”
