Statement on latest Energy Price Cap announcement
Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Heléna Herklots CBE, said:
“Whilst it is positive that energy prices are set to fall this summer, it’s important to remember that the new ‘price cap’ means that energy bills will still be around double what they were 18 months ago.
“With crucial financial support from the UK government being withdrawn, this will mean that many older people will find themselves in fuel poverty, faced with bills they are unable to afford, and forced to reduce spending on other essentials in an effort to make ends meet, putting their health at significant risk.
“The UK Government therefore needs to reinstate financial support for energy costs while energy bills are still so high, with additional support targeted at those who are most vulnerable.”
