Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Heléna Herklots CBE, said:
“The loss of life we saw in care homes across the UK during the pandemic was a tragedy, and my thoughts are with those who are still grieving and coming to terms with losing family and friends.
“Whilst the High Court ruling was focused specifically on action taken in England, families of older people living in care homes in Wales will understandably be looking for answers about how policies and decisions made in Wales affected their loved ones.
“The ruling underlines the need for a Wales-specific Public Inquiry to examine the impact of decisions made by the Welsh Government and other public bodies and provide people with the much-needed answers they are looking for.”
