The Older people’s Commissioner for Wales, Heléna Herklots, has published her latest Impact and Reach report, which highlights the wide range of work and action delivered by the Commissioner’s office to drive change for older people throughout Wales during the last year.
The report highlights the ways the Commissioner has influenced policy and practice relating to older people and the change that has been delivered across Wales as a result of her work. The report covers work delivered during the final few months of the previous Commissioner, Sarah Rochira’s time in office, along with the current Commissioner’s work from August 2018 onwards.
The report also highlights the help and support provided directly to older people through the Commissioner’s casework team, as well as the extensive engagement with older people throughout Wales undertaken by the Commissioner and her team to hear their views and ideas about what would make Wales the best place in the world to grow older.

“I was honoured to take up post as Commissioner in August 2018 and it is a privilege to be working to improve the lives of older people throughout Wales.
“Since taking up post, I have travelled the length and breadth of Wales, meeting and speaking with older people from a diverse range of backgrounds, which has helped to guide my work as Commissioner over the past year and shape my priorities for the years ahead.
“As my report shows, there is a wide range of work underway across Wales to improve older people’s lives that is making a positive difference. But much more work is still needed to ensure that all older people can have the best possible quality of life, remain active and engaged, access the services and support they may need, and do the things that matter to them.”
